Hiking (Wandern) is very popular in Germany and around the globe, those dressed in the cleanest, most professional clothing tend to be Germans.

Closer to home, the Industrial Heritage Trail reveals many interesting places. Over some 400 kilometres, 25 highlights and 16 vistas, the route weaves its way through marvellous countryside, urban areas and former industrial locations.

Farther afield, the multifarious trails in the Bergwanderpark Sauerland have something in store for every taste with impressive panoramas, historic sites and pulchritudinous landscape. The park is also an ideal site for lovers of winter sports such as snowshoe hiking or cross-country skiing.

Those looking for an intensive, nature-oriented trail should hike the Wildnis-Trail in the Nationalpark Eifel. It is possible to walk across the whole national park covering an area of about 100 square kilometers in four stages to discover the rich spectrum of its landscapes.
