Perhaps the most bizarre yet most fascinating event of the year is typical of the inspiration and creativity found in the Ruhr Metropolis. The Kiosk Day (Tag der Trinkhallen) in the Ruhr again offers a kalaidoscope of activities centered upon some fifty kiosks in the region such as music, poetry, theatre, cabaret, street art and photo exhibitions.

The kiosk culture in the Ruhr Metropolis is unique in bringing people of all walks of life together for a chat, a beer or just to collect the newspaper and some urgent goodies.

Kiosks are invaluable at certain times. Tucked into side streets and off main roads, they are able to fulfill spontaneous needs. Even though larger shops now open longer, these convenience stores normally offer drinks, alcohol, snacks and a small selection of foodstuffs at hours that others don't.
