International School Ruhr
Classes from nursery to grade eight

As of summer 2012, the IS Ruhr will be adding a new class to its programme: grades 7 & 8. The school is now offering classes from nursery (age 3) up to grade 8 (age 14).
Additional grades will be added continuously each year until the IS Ruhr offers a full PreSchool to Diploma Programme.
The IS Ruhr is an accredited supplementary school (Ergänzungsschule) authorised by the German ministry of education. With this status, parents are freed from the institutional German system of compulsory education.
In August 2010, the International School Ruhr (IS Ruhr) opened its doors in a lovely park at the Villa Koppers, just a few minutes from the city centre of Essen. It is ideally situated to serve the whole of the Ruhr region.
The villa’s interior has been adapted to suit the requirements of a modern school, including the multi-purpose room; a bright, open space for individual, group and pair work. The expansion of the Middle School includes the acquisition of an additional new 1000 m2 site nearby, which offers students a modern laboratory bio/chemistry, a music-room, library, cafeteria, learning atelier and chill out lounge.
Lessons at IS Ruhr are conducted in English, however a strong emphasis is also placed on the German language of the host country; this being one of the requirements for the implementation of an international curriculum. “Not only do we attract expatriates and native German families but we also welcome children of all nationalities, cultural and linguistic backgrounds.” says Frank van Poucke, their School Director.
Regular events provide additional information where parents have the opportunity to talk to representatives directly. Those wishing to know more about the school should do not hesitate to contact them. They look forward to hearing from all parents located in the Ruhr region.
