The telecommunications market in Rhine Ruhr experiences the same continuity of change as everywhere else. The largest telekoms companies are the big two Vodafone and the prior state monopolist Deutsche Telekom followed by E-Plus and O2.

Similar to other countries, mobile (Mobil) and land line (Festnetz) operations separate and reunite. Packages for mobile, land line, internet broadband, mobile broadband and tv can be obtained from several providers. Naturally, it possible to pick and choose services with individual providers as well as satelite tv and in most areas cable tv.

Unfortunately, competition is still fought at the expense of consumers. Changing to another provider in Rhine Ruhr can still be unpredictable, sometimes leading to periods of no service at all. Market prices are competitive and service is still improving.
