Rhine-Ruhr

A busy, diverse and green metropolitan region

Written by Admin, last edited on

The area of Rhine Ruhr derived its name from its rivers. The majestic Rhine weaves its way through fascinating countryside, various towns and cities on its way north to the coast. The calmer river Ruhr flows through undulating hillsides and an exciting region of change before its waters join the Rhine.

Comparable in size to London or Paris, it possesses no central government. Dozens of cities and municipalities compete with and complement each other with varying degrees of success. Large corporations ranging from manufacturing to services still have a defining impact on local economies and creation of jobs in one of Europe’s most populated metropolitan regions.

Nature too holds many surprises in this area with a history reaching back to the Neanderthal, through the industrial revolution to today’s modern technologies.

Things to Do

Rhine Ruhr is one of the most fascinating metropolitan areas in the world. Explore the lush green countryside, bike along the riverbanks and partake of a variety of events, exhibitions, performances and festivals on offer.
