Rail travel to and from Neuss

Written by Garry on

The major rail operator in Germany is the massive Deutsche Bahn. The company tends to focus on their most lucrative routes and trains known as the ICE, which are modern, fast and normally more punctual than the rest. Eurocity and Intercity trains complement the service on many routes. Tracks and their rolling stock are state owned and the corporation is loved and hated by all.

Local trains (Regionalbahn) run in all directions north, south, east and west. In Neuss it is necessary to first take one of these trains to then connect with the faster national and international networks. Most tickets in the VRR region are valid on these trains.

A competitor of the Deutsche Bahn, a company known as Regio Bahn runs a very popular, regular scheduled service to the east of Neuss through Düsseldorf to Mettmann and west to Kaarst using modern trains.

Düsseldorf International airport is under an hour journey away. Other airports in Weeze, Dortmund and Cologne are further away and take much longer to reach by rail.
