When driving in Germany it is necessary to convert a foreign driver’s license to a local German version (Führerschein) within the first six months. Following that time, the original license is no longer valid and driving not permitted. It is however possible to convert a license for up to three years following commencement of residency.
This system operates for licenses issued in most countries, though exemptions do exist.
Neuss belongs to a larger administrative region hence some official business needs to be instigated in the offices of the Rhine County Neuss (Rhein-Kreis Neuss). This is the case concerning driver’s licenses.
