In many countries, land lines (Festnetz) used for phoning are in decline. Take Finland, for example, where with fast mobile systems offering coverage to all corners of the country, vast numbers of clients have cancelled contracts. Younger generations don’t even bother to think about the necessity to be “immobile” and connected by a cable.

Germany, on the whole, is slower than many countries on the uptake of consumer topics, so it will take a while for this phenomenon to spread here. But it has started.

The benefit of a land line is a stable infrastructure and, some believe, the ability to converse in a calmer manner on a more normal or old fashioned phone in the home. Another is the ability to possess a very fast internet connection for all web-based activities and streaming tv.

The major provider of land lines in Neuss is Telekom, mobile suppliers such as Vodafone, O2 and E-Plus, 1&1 as well as cable company Unity Media also offer deals. Stores can be found on almost each and every block, figuratively speaking.
