An essentially typical German invention, the beer garden is communicative and a perfect place to meet friends old and new. Some are open throughout the year, not only on sunny and warm days.
Beer gardens (Biergarten) in Düsseldorf can be found to the north in Wittlaer and Kaiserswerth, the west in Niederkassel, the east in Grafenberg and towards Mettmann, the south beside the Volksgarden as well as downtown beside the river Rhine.
As the name says, the most popular drink to partake of is beer. Choose between the local dark beer (Altbier), a lager (Pils), or a popular wheat beer (Weizenbier) from Bavaria, which is normally served with a slice of lemon. Some places serve a traditional pretzel (Brezel) to accompany the beer.
