In 2002 the K21 was opened in Düsseldorf in the former seat of the state parliament as a museum for contemporary art. Known as the Ständehaus, the impressive building provides incredible exhibiton spaces.

K21 Ständehaus focuses on art from the late 20th and the 21st century as part of the Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen. Works by Jeff Wall, Andreas Gursky and Thomas Pouring can be found. Following the acquisition in 2004 of the Ackermann collection, works of Reinhard Mucha, Tony Oursler or Imi Knoebel can also be marvelled.

Permanent exhibits can be viewed such as the artist’s room installations of Nam June Paik, Christian Boltanski, Ilya Kabakov as well as works by Paul McCarthy and Thomas Schütte. Impressive spaces are constantly filled with temporary exibitions. The stunning sculpture and installation area on the top floor is a must.
