From old masterpieces to the contemporary

Interest in the arts is extremely strong in Düsseldorf and, fortunately, this holds true amongst those making the descisions on a local and state level. Patronage is also high in the region.

This results in strong public subsidies as well as private sponsoring of highly diverse art venues and art museums in Düsseldorf. The state capital boasts one of the most lively and art worlds in Europe and beyond. Impressive collections go hand in hand with inspiring exhibitions, sometimes of global significance.

Art venues can be found in many downtown locations in a large variety of premises. Whether underground, in the old parliament building, modern or dated concrete boxes, the choice is vast and just as diverse.

Various actors and premises involved in art in Düsseldorf have been gathered together under the banner Art in Dusseldorf by the city authorities.

KIT Kunst im Tunnel

KIT Kunst im Tunnel is focussed on contemporary art in the fields of sculpture, painting, photography, video and installation art. Some four to six exhibitions with exciting audiences take place every year. Invitations to opening events are eagerly awaited by those in the know.

K21 Ständehaus

K21 Ständehaus focuses on art from the late 20th and the 21st century. Permanent exhibits include the artist's room installations, while impressive spaces are constantly filled with temporary exibitions. The stunning sculpture and installation area on the top floor is a must.

NRW Forum

The NRW-Forum focusses on such topics as media, fashion, communication, research and lifestyle. Furthermore, everyday phenomena such as fashion photos or architecture, cars or comics are isolated from their actual meaning in a new sensory context.
