Street parking in Düsseldorf brings with it a plethora of signs, many declaring multiple regulations. Interpreting parking rules can be very confusing though. Some areas have resident parking at certain hours, some parking spaces are free at all hours, others timed with a disk and others metered. Mobile payment facilities are available.
Germans treat their cars well, clean them regularly and often detest minor scratches and dents. If a mishap occurs beware departing it is an offence carrying a hefty penalty and dire consequences.
Covered parking is available below ground or above, from modern and light to dark and scruffy. Most have the obligatory tight ramps and narrow parking bays. The city authorities provide good signage declaring available space to aid parking in most central districts.
