ISR – International School on the Rhine just minutes from downtown Düsseldorf in Neuss is an accredited, private and international all-day school starting at kindergarten. This English speaking and multi-cultural school offers German, French, Spanish, Mandarin and Japanese lessons as well. Many choose ISR because the academic program prepares students for the world-wide renowned International Baccalaureate, simply known as IB.
Great minds and strong character
Academic excellence, character building, social competence as well as finding individually tailored solutions are the core of the ISR education system. The ISR seeks to develop students into well-rounded, multi-lingual, self-aware and socially-responsible global citizens. It offers an excellent, international education with a holistic concept from kindergarten school to grade 12.
The school’s vision is to pose as a leader in academic achievement, to provide self-development and character-building experiences, to prepare for life and to connect their graduates world-wide through building an active alumni network.
Best practice environment
The ISR is a privately financed, non-profit school with a full-day academic program in the Düsseldorf, Neuss and Cologne region. Over 660 students from 45 different nationalities enjoy the 42.000 square meter campus from 08:20am until 16:20pm, with supervision starting at 07:45am until 17:45pm.
Modern infrastructure includes new interactive white boards in all class rooms and well equipped science labs, music facilities, and sports halls. Some optional varsity sports (football, track, tennis and swimming) and private music or language lessons round out the program. A private school bus company simplifies safe travel to the ISR and back to all residential areas in the region.
Starting in Kindergarten, all classes are taught in English by native English speaking teachers. The German curriculum is a fully fledged accredited program. Hence, children are fully immersed in English and German over their entire school career. Additionally, French, Spanish, Mandarin and Japanese are taught. These are the most common languages required in an increasingly competitive job market later in life.
Foundation for success
The graduates of ISR have consistently achieved the best IB exam results in the Düsseldorf region for many years, with an average of 35 points in 2015. ISR is non-selective with respect to who enters the IB program and all graduates enter leading universities directly after graduation, such as Cambridge, Berkeley or TU München. As an accredited school, the ISR IB diploma is accepted as “Allgemeine Hochschulreife” in the German system. This allows students to also attend German universities.
Starting in the 9th grade, the school’s own university and career counselling department (UCC) offers students a systematic and individual counselling in career and university course choices. The UCC office also helps students optain internships at companies in the Düsseldorf area. In the past, students have been placed at Siemens for example. The school works closely with local businesses on programs during the school year as well. These include Deutsche Bank and BCG.
Many events and activities throughout the academic year provide an opportunity to meet with staff and get to know the school environment.
